specificity

A picture that I took of a field of lotus flowers on Con Dao Island.

What is a picture without its details?  What is a piece of writing without its imagery?  It is difficult to imagine anything without its specificity.  In the writing piece, “Let’s Get Specific” by Beth Johnson, talks about the differences between the writings with details and no details.  Without the details and specifics in a piece of writing, it’s almost impossible to imagine what the author is talking about.  With the imagery, it gives the reader a better imagination of what the author is trying to write.  In the picture above, there is a field of lotus flowers that has very vibrant colors.  There are so many details that you could describe in this picture that you can’t simply just say “Look at the green and pink lotuses”.  The mountains, the sky, the clouds, the flowers… So much to talk about!!
